What to Expect at a Valuation Day?

Attending One of Our Valuation Days

During the year, Leighton Hall Auctions hold regular complimentary Valuation Days throughout the Midlands to include Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire amongst other areas too.

As well as holding a weekly Valuation Day at our offices in Stone, we also realise that sometimes life can be too busy and unpredictable to make a long journey to come and see us in our saleroom. We hold regular events in a variety of locations to make our services as accessible as possible for anybody that would like to learn a little more about their antiques and collectables.

A few weeks prior to our events, we advertise our Valuation Days, where we can be found and the timings of the day also. If you are able to make our pop-up valuation events, brilliant! Everyone is more than welcome to attend without making an appointment, provided you are within the advertised times. At most of our outings, there is normally 2 valuers present who will specialise in different areas within the vastly broad world of the antiques industry. Our valuation days are advertised as general valuations for all antiques and collectables to include Pottery, Militaria, Toys, Watches, Coins, Jewellery, Silver, Clocks and any other type of antiques that you may be curious to have valued or be interested in selling.

If you attend one of our events and all the present valuers are busy, then please do take a seat in the hall and wait to be seen by a valuer. As these days run without appointments, please be prepared to experience a short wait, this doesn't normally exceed 20 minutes though we do try to be fair to all who have made the effort to come and see us! Please note, we are unable to offer written valuations for insurance or probate purposes. If you require a valuation for Probate, Insurance or Family Division, then please Click Here to find out more information.

Once it is your turn and a valuer is free, they will ask to you to come and sit at their desk in exciting anticipation as to what treasures you may be about to reveal! The valuer will ask to look at your item(s) and will gladly help you to answer any questions you may have about your item and also talk about it's value and the amount it may be able to achieve if sold in one of our fully-illustrated auctions which are advertised across the globe. Whilst we would love you to consign your valuables to auction, there is never any obligation to sell your item through ourselves and none of our valuers will ever put any pressure on you to do so.

If you were happy with the advice and valuations provided, and would like to proceed at auction, then you are invited to consign your items at the valuation day where we shall collect your contact details and provide you with a full receipt for your items. Please note, as soon as the items are left within our care, they will be fully insured, traceable and securely stored too whilst they are then prepared for auction. At the time of consignment, our valuers will talk you through the simple selling process with ourselves and also our transparent charges too. There are no charges for the valuations on the day. If it suited you better, you are also welcome to deliver the items to our saleroom in Stone though we politely ask that you make an appointment to do so.

After the items have been consigned, they will then be transported back to our offices in Stone before they are then prepared for auction and catalogued ready to be advertised to collectors of antiques and jewellery across the globe. They will then be sold in the next most relevant auction which the valuer will again discuss with you. Although we don't allow room bidding, you will be able to watch the auction live via our website.

That's it! That's all there is to it - we are a trustworthy, professional and most importantly friendly firm of auctioneers. There is no need to worry or panic about attending one of our events. Alternatively, please don't be embarassed to bring or show us items that you think may not be suitable for an auction. Our valuers are extremely experienced and are genuinely excited to see all shapes and forms of antiques and jewellery that walk in through the doors. In today's market, it can often be the items which are perceived to be 'worthless' that can be in high demand at auction!
