The Month of March: Coins, Celebrities and Collectables!

March has been a fantastic and most exciting month here at Leighton Hall Auctions.

We opened the month by auctioning a single-owner collection of coins, known as the Jaguar Collection. During this sale we auctioned off over 140 lots, with the top lot on the day being a cased set of sovereigns, which sold for £6600. We feel extremely humbled to have been given the exclusive opportunity to auction these coins on behalf the vendor, and express our thanks to all who bought from the auction. This was also a ‘white glove sale’ meaning that we sold every single lot!

Just one week later, we were both very excited and pleased to welcome the BBC’s Kate Bliss to our auction house to host a specialist jewellery and silver valuation day. Kate, who is best known for featuring as the antiques expert on the BBC One show Bargain Hunt, had a busy day with us in Stone, as Kate welcomed customers and provided valuations for all sorts of items from superb sapphire rings to a wonderful 18ct gold pocket watch. We are extremely appreciative to Kate joining us at our auction house in Staffordshire, where not only did she offer valuations throughout the day, but also her expert advice on the items presented before her and for being such a delight to welcome too! For many of our customers it was a great opportunity to have their jewellery and silver valued and to meet Kate in person.

With spirits high following the visit of Kate, the next weekend we hosted our monthly antiques and collectables auction. Featuring over 720 lots, Toby and David worked hard to auction all the items, with the top lot, a superb 9ct gold charm bracelet fetching £950. Many exciting lots were put forwards in the March monthly auction, which included anything from Doulton figures, to watches and even motorbikes! In the days after the auction, we posted items to America, the Netherlands, Switzerland of course the UK, symbolizing that with every auction we hold, our customer base is growing and spreading further afield. If you are looking to purchase something out of one of our upcoming auctions but are not local to our auction house in Stone, please do not feel you cannot bid, as we offer a competitive postage service for shipping your goods to you.

In parallel with all of the above, we continued to hold our ever-popular valuation days, both from our auction house in Stone and from various venues around Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and the Midlands. Across the numerous valuation days we have held in March, we estimate to have seen over 80 customers and valued hundreds of items. We are pleased to report that for our valuation days being held on a Tuesday at our auction house, they are frequently being fully booked in advance of the date and therefore we highly recommend that you book well in advance of wanting to bring your items for valuation. We have now also opened Wednesdays for valuation days at our Stone saleroom too!

To summarise, what a busy, yet fantastic month March has been! We have all thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet new and current customers whilst immersing ourselves amongst a full range of antique and collectables. We know that March has set us up for what is going to be an exceptionally busy spring here at Leighton Hall Auctions.
